Strategic Agent in the Dynamization of the Healthcare Ecosystem
Biocat acts as a strategic agent and catalyst in the construction of the Catalan healthcare and life sciences ecosystem. Its mission is to dynamize all the stakeholders of the BioRegion (companies, research groups and entities, hospitals and innovation support structures) to transform knowledge and technology into economic growth and to create a social impact.
Biocat was created in 2006 at the behest of the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council to provide a joint strategy for the Catalan biosciences sector as the foundation of a new economy based on knowledge and innovation.
Set up as a public/private foundation, the Biocat governing bodies include representatives from all levels of the BioRegion of Catalonia: companies (biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical technology and sector services), government, universities, hospitals, research centers and institutes, science parks and sector support bodies.
International Projection
Biocat dynamizes the BioRegion, the life sciences and healthcare ecosystem in Catalonia, in order to consolidate and project it internationally. Through its actions, Biocat acts as a knowledge partner for the government to design policies and programs that affect the sector; detects major international trends to anticipate the sector’s needs and opportunities before they even appear; facilitates collaboration between the stakeholders in the BioRegion and a variety of entities in Catalonia and beyond, both nationally and internationally and access of companies and research bodies to public stakeholders; proposes flexible, innovative solutions to the sector’s challenges, with quality and efficacy.
Biocat aims to become a global benchmark with the knowledge and financial capacity to head up large, strategic, countrywide projects and provide service for public and private stakeholders in the life sciences and healthcare sector.
